Disqus and Wibiya

I made the jump and installed Disqus on this site. The comment sync went very fast. I was hoping with the facebook and twitter integration I’d get more registered commenter’s, that’s not the case yet. The only real issue I had with the migration was I had turned off my local askimet plugin. When I did that I started getting spam comment and trackbacks that didn’t show up in Disqus, but I was getting notified by wordpress of the comments and trackbacks I had in its local moderation. I never got a good reason why this happened. I just enabled the local Askimet plug-in and I don’t see these anymore.

I also added the social toolbar Wibiya it adds a small bar to the bottom of the web browser that includes facebook, twitter, and flickr integration, flash games, a search bar. They are working on adding Google connect. I like the small bar at the bottom better than adding a bunch more sidebar widgets.

Give me some feedback, do you like Disqus and Wibiya? Are they working for you?

later,jb

  1. How do you like this wibiya bar? i love it on my site Twittrblog.com

  2. Pingback: Tweet this to win
  3. Ya U can check out your Uploading,Downloading Speed test also Ip-Address Details, using accurate location of the server using maps,Host Search,Ip-Search longitude,Latitude check etc.I used the same site.U can use the site Ip-Details.com.

  4. I love using Disqus, and while I've had one support experience that was badly lacking, the next time the folks there really turned around quickly on solving a quite serious issue where the majority of my blog entries pre-2009 were 'comments closed'.

I'll check out the wibiya bar. It's a great idea to have all that stuff at the bottom, and looks snazzy, but then people distrust anything that kind of pops up. So I dunno. Like you I may try it and see what the stats are on its usage.

Yours was awfully slow when I just had a go at checking out recent posts – the white box remained so for almost a minute, with a loading icon. That didn't impress, suggesting they need to make it a bit more speedy.

  5. After running a comparison between Disqus and IntenseDebate, I found ID a bit better for my community. I have the Wibiya as well. Good idea if they were to add the GFC to it staying on lookout for that as well.

    Great work!!

  6. I'd like to be able to link my facebook, twitter, and Disqus account together so when I post to a disqus site, I can update twitter and facebook also.
Last I checked ID didn't let you post the comment to facebook, only log into facebook to leave a comment.

  7. my wordpress blog also add Disqus plugin,I'd like to replace my current setup with something much simpler, and guests post simpler too.

  8. Thanks for stopping by. I checked out your site looks like I'll have reading to do. But looking at your disqus profile you left the same comment on other blogs.

  9. I agree with you completely, if facebook, friendster, etc.. can implement something like Disqus, it will make the whole social community world even more efficient and more interactive.

  10. I have Disqus on my personal blog, and Intense debate on another site. I love them both … still trying to decide which one I like better. I first used Disqus and my reasons for choosing Disqus at the time was because Intense Debate didn't have as many features as Disqus, and Disqus had just integrated Facebook connect (something Intense Debate didn't have at the time).

I'm leaning more towards Intense Debate lately because of their open API where developers can create plugins and integration with Intense Debate.

Regarding Wibiya … I just learned about the tool bar and I found your blog because I was researching it … I remember when Mashable had the Meebo toolbar, I thought it was a cool and subtle implementation … not sure why they dropped Meebo, but I'm liking the Wibiya toobar.

One thing I'm concerned about is the speed of the page load with the Wibiya toolbar, I have noticed pages take longer to load completely with it installed.

Do you see this as an issue on your site?

    Enjoy … Scott

  12. Disqus is popular and useful.Disqus is good for my work and life.I like it very much.but every coin has two back.we must use the disqus to improve our working efficient

  13. such a great article, discuss certanly makes things easier on blogs, more people seem willing to use it.

  14. I really haven't seen too much additional load time with the Wibiya bar. But I've also been watch the stats and the bar is not getting used too much so I might drop it.

  15. I think that the main advantage of disqus is its ability to integrate with most social platforms.

  16. Hopefully, by installing Disqus, your expectations will be met.
I am very pleased to read the articles in your blog.
