Evolution of the video game console

Over the years I’ve had many video game consoles. The NES, Sega Genesis, PlayStation 1,2, and 3, Xbox 360. This info-graphic shows all the consoles over time. Boy have things have changed. The rumors are both Microsoft and Sony will have new consoles out for Christmas time next year.

Which of these consoles do you own? Which is your favorite?

I have both a Xbox and PSN gamertag, its BenwayNet on both, add me if you like. I’m a casual gamer.

  1. Great post. I was born in 76 and our first console was Atari 2600. From there, NES, Super NES, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Playstation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii. I had a friend who had TurboGrafix, NEO GEO and a Vetrex.
I’m very excited to see what happens with the Kickstarter console, Ouya. I will buy an Xbox 720 (if that’s what they call it). I’m an Xbox Fan. I gave up on Playstation after I played an Xbox for the first time.

  2. I too had an Atari 2600.
The Ouya will be interesting we’ll just wait and see.

As for the Xbox, I’m sick of having to pay a monthly fee to Microsoft use the online apps (netflix, crackle, etc)

The Ouya might just be want I need since I’m a casual gamer.

  3. Awesome info-graphic, I wasn’t born until 1992 so i missed out of most of the classics. The oldest game console i can remember playing was SEGA My favourite too date still is the playstation 2 they brought out the best games on that console by far.

  4. Doom, Mario bros… these titles and these consoles really transported me one of the happiest times of my life. Great post!

  6. Sega mega drive was my first. That was 3 years ago. Now i just stick to PC video games. It’s amazing like PS3 ones.

  7. Interesting coverage of consoles over the years. It is amazing how they have evolved to where they are today! Looking forward to the P4

  8. My very first video game console that i ever had was the Sega Master System then i got a nintendo. That was way back in the day. After that it was all about the Sega Genesis and the Super Nes

  9. Hello Jason..
That’s a wonderful info-graphic ..quite informative too.I am Still addicted to the good old X BOX 360 ..No plans of changing it soon though..

    1. I like my xbox 360 also, I just don’t play enough to justify a live subscription. So I don’t get to use any of the online (netflix, etc) apps which I don’t think is right. I shouldn’t have to pay MS to use netflix which I already have to pay for.
